IDPA

This section is quoted from the International Defensive Pistol Association's website homepage:

"The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is the governing body of a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. It was founded in 1996 as a response to the desires of shooters worldwide. The organization now boasts membership of more than 11,000, including members in 19 foreign countries.

One of the unique facets of this sport is that it is geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced shooter. The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive. IDPA Logo
The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. “Competition only” equipment is not permitted in this sport.

The firearms are grouped into five (5) divisions:

1) Custom Defensive Pistol (.45ACP semi-automatics only);
2) Enhanced Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber semi-automatics);
3) Stock Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber double action, double action only, or safe action semi-automatics);
4) Enhanced Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers); and
5) Stock Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers).

See Appendix One (of the Official Rule Book of IDPA - effective April 15, 2005)– Equipment for delineations in the revolver divisions. Shooters are then classed by like-skill levels with progression from Novice (NV); to Marksman (MM); to Sharpshooter (SS); to Expert (EX); and, finally, to Master (MA)."

IDPA At Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol Club

IDPA is an extremely popular sport in our area with enough local club, regional and state championship matches to keep you shooting almost every weekend of the month, all year long! The structure and rules create an even playing field for shooters of all abilities, new or veteran, revolvers or semi-automatics, male or female - it is just plain fun! A little " off the self " equipment, some ammo, eye and ear protection, and a desire to have a great time with great people and you are in for the time of your life!

Don't believe me? Come on out and see for yourself!

WARNING: Most people who come out for the first time - end up coming back every time!

Very often it seems new shooters are hesitant to come to their first match - I am not very good, I don't want to embarrass myself, I don't know much about shooting or I want to learn how, but I have never shot a handgun before - perfect, you are exactly who we want to see at our club matches! Believe me, no one will laugh at you or embarrass you and we will teach you everything you need to know to enjoy a safe day at the range. Some of our veterans teach classes for IDPA beginners, intermediates and experts. Those classes will be announced on this website as well.

By the way, at Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol club matches, we run a cold range. That means that safety rules and practices are STRICTLY enforced, you will only have your gun out of your holster or ammo in your gun, when instructed to do so by two trained and qualified safety officers on the firing line! Anyone not following the safety rules or commands of the safety officers will be without question escorted off the property and asked not to return.

This page is your launch point for happenings in our area. Visit the IDPA official website for happenings throughout the country and the world, official rules, equipment requirements, etc.

IDPA matches at Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol Club are held the third Saturday of every month (except where noted on the calendar page). The gates will open at 9:00 am with a safety orientation for shooters new to IDPA at 9:30 am. Shooting will begin at 10:00 am.

The cost is $10 per shooter per match whether you are a member of Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol Club or not. Cleveland Hunting, Rifle and Pistol Club is a private club for members only but the gates are open to the public during these special events.

See 'ya at the range!
